FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Normandy over Paris for a destination wedding?

Normandy offers a unique château wedding weekend experience that Paris simply cannot offer. Instead of a single-day celebration, you and your guests can stay together for two nights on a private estate, surrounded by beautiful gardens and historic countryside. With more space, greater privacy and exceptional value, Normandy combines the authentic French art de vivre with a luxury wedding experience that is often far more accessible than comparable venues in Paris.

Which château is right for our wedding?

Choosing the right château depends on your guest count, the season, your wedding style and your budget. One of the most important considerations is how many guests you would like to accommodate overnight and whether additional accommodation will be needed nearby. Another is whether you envision your reception inside the château, which is a rare and memorable experience, or outdoors in the gardens or parkland, which is the more traditional option.

Every château offers a different atmosphere, capacity and accommodation options. For example, Château de Bonnemare is ideal for celebrations of 20 to 300 guests and offers accommodation for up to 45 guests on the estate. Other venues may be better suited to more intimate weddings or different styles of celebration.

Tell us about your plans, and we'll recommend the venue that best matches your vision, guest list and budget.

Can foreigners get married in France?

Yes. A legally binding civil ceremony must take place at a French town hall and involves residency requirements, so most international couples marry legally in their home country and celebrate a symbolic ceremony at a château in France. We'll guide you through both options and help you choose the solution that best suits your situation.

How much does a château wedding cost?

Every wedding is unique, but as a general guide, a château wedding in France starts from around €30,000 for a one-day celebration. If you're dreaming of a complete wedding weekend—including a welcome dinner, wedding day and farewell brunch—you should expect a minimum budget of around €40,000 for an intimate wedding of up to 40 guests.

Larger celebrations naturally require a higher budget. For example, a luxury château wedding for around 150 guests typically starts from approximately €100,000, depending on the venue, guest experience and level of design.

Contact us to discuss your vision, and we'll prepare a personalised quotation tailored to your guest list, priorities and budget.

How far is Normandy from Paris?

Normandy is surprisingly close to Paris. Most château wedding venues are located between 1.5 and 2 hours by car from the capital, depending on their location. The region is easily accessible from Paris Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais airports, as well as via the ferry port of Ouistreham (Caen) for guests travelling from the UK.

For example, Château de Bonnemare is just 1 hour 30 minutes from Porte Maillot, making it one of the most accessible château wedding venues in Normandy.

Although travel times vary slightly from one venue to another, Normandy remains the closest countryside destination to Paris, offering the perfect balance between convenience and the charm of an authentic French château wedding.

Can you organise a wedding weekend?

Absolutely. Creating elegant three-day château wedding weekends is at the heart of what we do. From a relaxed welcome dinner on Friday to your wedding celebration on Saturday and a farewell brunch on Sunday, we design every moment so your guests can enjoy an unforgettable experience together.

How many guests can you accommodate?

It depends on the venue we choose for your wedding. Most French château venues and countryside hotels offer a limited number of rooms, so guest accommodation is often spread across carefully selected gîtes, boutique hotels and charming bed & breakfasts nearby.

As part of our planning service, we organise your guests' accommodation, recommend the most convenient places to stay close to the venue, and coordinate transportation throughout the wedding weekend.

For example, Château de Bonnemare welcomes 20 to 300 guests and offers accommodation for up to 45 guests on the estate. Other venues provide different capacities and accommodation options.

One of the great advantages of a destination wedding in Normandy is that many guests from the UK and across Europe can travel by car. Unlike in Paris, parking is plentiful, free and easily accessible, making the entire experience more comfortable for everyone.

Which languages do you speak?

Tatiana and the Agence Chance team work fluently in English, French and Russian, ensuring smooth communication from the first consultation to the wedding day, whichever language you feel most comfortable speaking.

When should we book?

The most popular wedding dates, especially between May and September, are often reserved 12 to 18 months in advance. Autumn and winter weddings usually offer greater flexibility and can sometimes be planned within 3 to 6 months.

If your wedding date is flexible, consider celebrating on a weekday rather than a Saturday. You'll have a much better chance of securing your preferred château and vendors, and in some cases may also benefit from more favourable pricing—all while enjoying exactly the same unforgettable wedding experience.
